Our Land Acknowledgement
We stand on the traditional lands and treaty territory of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation, which includes the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation and the Chippewas of Saugeen First Nation. We recognize and appreciate the contributions that Indigenous Peoples have made in caring for this land and all the beings that call this watershed their home.Â
The Penetangore River watershed includes the Penetangore River and its tributaries, which drains an area of 192 square kilometers and flows into Lake Huron, making it an important part of the Great Lakes Basin ecosystem.
As we provide this land acknowledgement, we reflect upon our intention towards this land and watershed and our action towards reconciliation with the Indigenous Peoples of this land. We pray for guidance, thoughtfulness, and compassion to understand the damages done in the past and pursue a better way forward into the future. We are grateful for this place and all the beings who belong here; we are grateful to gather here today.
